A great wine deep-rooted in the heart of St Emilion
Refusing to bend to fashion trends, our family claims a vintners’ signature, typically French, inscribed between tradition and modernity. This respect of the terroir is linked to our origins. We are born here in this vineyard with its unique location backing onto the southern hillside of St Emilion.
The blend of wines from the slope and the foot of the hillside produces a nectar, which is powerful, racy and silky. This harmony is found in each vintage of our estate.
We like to share our wine, to show its finesse and elegance, the result of a know-how passed down through generations.
2017 Chateau La Gaffelière, St. Emilion
Winemaker Notes
Château La Gaffeliere resides in the renowned St. Emilion appellation of Bordeaux and is classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classe B. Château La Gaffeliere has the merit of being one of the oldest, family owned vineyards in St. Emilion. The family traces their roots in the Right Bank all the way back to the 1400’s. Today La Gaffeliere produces approximately 10,000 cases per year from their estate just south of town with a blend typically about 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 65% Merlot, and 30% Cabernet Franc. Due to the more continental climate than Left Bank wines of the Médoc as well as the vineyards lying on top of sandy clay-limestone soils, the wines are quite robust and ripe with a nice mineral component to add complexity. Enjoy these beautiful wines with a nice skirt steak and mash or a rack of lamb.
" Wine Advocate | 97 Pts "
The 2017 La Gaffeliere is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the nose is a little closed to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal fragrant scents of kirsch, black raspberries and warm plums plus suggestions of unsmoked cigars, rosehip tea and underbrush.
